In 2020 I am searching for a new studio where I will be able to run workshops from. For the first half of 2020 I will be doing few workshops. I am looking for some new venues and will post what I am doing as soon as I have definite plans. But I am open to bookings from groups and Guilds.
“Annabel is a relaxed, friendly teacher and an expert guide to the art of stitch resist shibori and natural plant dyes.”
“thanks for our fantastic workshop, I have been massively inspired”
“The Magic of Indigo and Introduction to Shibori Stitch Resist”
The process of dyeing with indigo is magical. Learn to stitch and manipulate fabric to resist the dye (called shibori) creating beautiful patterns on fabric. Practice the many shibori techniques that you will have read about in books. It is so much easier to learn by doing it under the expert guidance of Annabel who uses shibori to create her beautiful hangings of plant and landscape images. An enjoyment of sewing is helpful, and the day is suitable for all levels of ability.
One day workshop
Explore 3 or 4 stitch resist techniques, ori nui, miru shibori, ne maki to create your own unique textiles.
Two day workshop
Two days opens up the opportunity to explore an additional range of stitch resist techniques, the ones mentioned above plus maki-age, guntai, mokume and boshi shibori.
“you teach so well and so patiently and with such nice humour, we all enjoyed it enormously”
“We really enjoyed the whole process and love our scarves”
Learn how to create stunning patterns through stitch resist and to dye with natural plant colours to make your very own scarf.
During this one day workshop, you will start by becoming familiar with some types of stitch resist and along with clamping and folding the fabric. Annabel will be your expert guide to show you how to stitch and shape the silk fabric to resist the dye and create the desired pattern.
We then go on to colour the silk scarf with naturally derived plant dyes. You will learn the process of dyeing with plant dyes. Typically 4 different plants will be used to create a lovely palette of colours. Annabel will show you the common plants that have been used for generations.
Suitable for all and no previous experience is necessary although an enjoyment of sewing is really helpful.
One silk scarf is included in the course fee. If you require any additional scarves they would be charged at cost.
“Shibori with Visible Mending”
This one day workshop will introduce you to visible mending and how to create beautiful repairs on clothing. Do bring along a shirt or trousers that need a patch or you can learn the technique working a patch or repair on plain cotton.
Previously dyed and patterned shibori fabrics (created by Annabel) will be provided for you to work with.
Learn how to use kantha and other embroidery stitches to enhance your work
Practice using visible repair to enhance and strengthen textiles
