Exploring Shibori Stitch Resist
An introductory day course to creating patterns from the natural world in shibori stitch resist. Come and learn how to make your own unique textiles.
We will be dyeing our designs with iron/tannin producing varying shades of sophisticated grey.
The course involves lots of hand stitching so a love of sewing is helpful. You will have time to dye a scarf and some fabric pieces.
The shibori techniques you learn can be used with any dye colours, natural and synthetic. Working in a small group, with a maximum of eight students, you will get all the individual attention and support you need.
During this one day workshop
- You will be introduced to a number of stitch resist techniques. Annabel will guide you on how to stitch and shape the fabric to resist the dye and create the desired pattern – this is the ancient Japanese art of Shibori.
- You will explore and learn how to dye with tannin and iron. An exceedingly simple way to create shibori patterns. These techniques you learn can be applied to dyeing with all kinds of dye, plant dyes or synthetic dyes.
- Learn the secrets to successful shibori resist.
One cotton scarf and a number of fabric pieces are included in the course fee.
Annabel is a relaxed, friendly teacher and an expert guide to the art of shibori.
