Creating a Handsome Heart in Shibori Stitch Resist and Madder Dye

miru shibori heart

As the 14th February was getting closer this year I decided I wanted to show how to create a heart shaped design in sophisticated tie dye stitching.

This little design uses miru shibori, a way of working that involves folding the fabric in half and stitching a number of rows parallel to each other outlining the heart shape. In the video below I show exactly how to make this pretty design, step by step. It is easy to follow my instructions.

After stitching and gathering the fabric up to resist the dye I used madder root to dye the design in a lovely deep pink, an appropriate colour I think!

I do hope you may enjoy creating this simple design following my video instructions. Further helpful hints about shibori are found in previous blogs. I have an outline of the five most commonly used shibori stitches here.
