Collagraph printing is a wonderfully simple way of producing a printmaking plate. Cardboard, textured papers, and wallpaper are layered and cut to achieve the desired image as a simple cardboard plate. The plate is rolled with ink and then printing paper placed on the plate and pressed to transfer the image to the paper. Many colours can be used. For examples of colour collagraphs see the Extras page. The plate produced appears in reverse when it is printed. The limits of collagraph are that you can only make about 10 prints from the plate before it starts to fall apart.
Here are some examples of printmaking by relief printing methods, produced by collagraph techniques. Images inspired by walking in the Dorset landscape.
